Norwich Film Festival @UEA 2019

Norwich Film Festival @UEA 2019

On the 15th November, we went to the University of East Anglia to attend the Norwich Film Festival. Whilst there, we had a talk with Julian Foddy, looking at VFX in film, in particular Marvel's Spider-Man: Far From Home and looking at the ILM (Industrial Light & Magic). During this talk, we looked at the roles of staff working for ILM and how VFX in film works - particularly the different stages of VFX, looking at the original plain idea of what the VFX will be used for and then the end result of when VFX is used in film and how it adds to the world of the film.

Later that day, we had a talk with British director Joe Cornish (Attack the Block, The Kid That Would Be King) about directing and writing for the big screen. Cornish provided a lot of information about his experience in the film industry and his history of directing and writing. Even after the talk with him, myself and some fellow classmates spoke to him directly in person and asked for his advice in regards to directing and screenwriting for our short film. He offered advice, recommending on trying to find a solid idea that we could all agree on and adding comedy to a story to create, in his opinion, a better story.

In the afternoon, there was a panel of young actors - Divian Ladwa (Ant-Man and the Wasp), Ellie Kendrick (Game of Thrones) and Isaura Barbe-Brown (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald), who had spoken to us about getting their way into the acting business as well as their experience of becoming actors, getting agents and how they've been cast into large-budget productions.
