Work Experience Placements
When looking for work experience placements, I took the opportunity to have a wider spread of places of which I wanted to apply to for a chance to gain experience in different creative areas. These businesses that I did apply to for work experience are:- Access, Norwich
- Archant, Norwich
- BBC Voices, Norwich
- Campbell Cloud Films
- Epic Studios, Norwich
- Norwich Theatre Royal, Norwich
- Thompson Granger Films
Unfortunately, I was unable to gain work experience at any of the aforementioned work placements. Although this was the case, I do feel like I could have possibly searched further for even more diverse opportunities in the creative field for my work experience. However, despite this, I managed to gain a small opportunity of work experience at my local gym to produce a video advert to advertise their gym.
Fitness at the Street Gym
For my work experience at 'Fitness at the Street' gym, I had been tasked with filming and editing footage of different classes at the gym to create a promotional advert for the gym. I have attended several of the gym sessions to gain a varied series of clips to edit together to create the video for the staff there. Using Adobe Audition, I selected suitable clips and I was able to put together an advert for 'Fitness at the Street'; in addition to this, they'll be looking to use for their social media platforms to promote and spread awareness of their gym and the classes that they run throughout the week.
Caged In short film
As of the end of January, my class started the pre-production of our short film Caged In which we are currently in the middle of shooting. Throughout the whole pre-production phase, I volunteered for the job of foley, looking at the sound effects that were to be considered audible in the film; some examples of this would be tin cans being knocked over, the zipping up/down of a sleeping bag, the cocking of a pistol etc. From these considerations, I generated a tick list of sound effects that we'd need to record, how we could replicate the ideal sounds and when each sound had been recorded.
During the production phase of our short film in March, I had been helping on set with recording dialogue for the film as well as general ambience of each location of where we have been/will be filming. This task has required me to relearn the usage of a Tascam audio recorder and has helped develop my audio-based skills to provide an extra pair of hands when needed on set.
Recently, however, I have been unable to continue these forms of work experience and skills development due to the global pandemic that is COVID-19 and the UK Government's decision for a whole country lock-down with social distancing been put into place. With this crisis happening, I have been unable to continue filming and have been cut off from access to editing software, so I am unable to continue my work experience.
